The Erie Shores Council provides outstanding Scouting programs to the youth of Northwest Ohio in Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood and eastern Fulton Counties.  Programs are operated by age levels mixing lots of fun together with outdoor activities.

Tiger Cubs - A first-grade boy joins along with an adult family member for at-home activities plus a monthly event with other Tiger Cub boys and adults.
Cub Scouts - Games, crafts, sports, skills, camping—it’s all here in this neighborhood– and family– centered program for boys in second through fifth grades.
Boy Scouts - While delivering on the promise of outdoor adventure, Boy Scouting places emphasis on leadership, values, service, and lifetime skills.  Special opportunities include summer camp, national and international jamborees, and trips to high adventure bases.
Venturing - A youth development program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the 8th grade) through 20 years of age whose purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

We have a full service Scout Shop with a wide variety of Scouting items and are the proud owner of two of the finest camps that have been consistently honored with top ratings.   The camps have full time resident rangers, archery ranges, BB gun and rifle ranges, obstacle courses, COPE courses, activity fields, rappelling towers, canoes, rowboats, sailboats, and many other exciting things for boys to experience and learn about.  Check out the Camping section and link into an adventure!

Once again, welcome to Scouting in Northwest Ohio!

United Way Community Investments

The United Way has released their 2011-2012 community investments.  They have once again generously allocated $85,000 towards our Scoutreach program.  This investment in our program is the same as the past year, and will allow our team of program staff to continue to deliver a high quality program to youth in the center city, and other economically disadvantaged areas of our community.  As we continue to grow our Scoutreach program, BSA board members are encouraged to visit one of our many program sites, or events conducted at Camp Miakonda or throughout the community. CLEAN STREAMS GRANT

On Friday, November 12, 2010 Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur announced  Partners for Clean Streams has been awarded a highly competitive $1.36 million Great Lakes Restoration Grant  for Habitat Restoration at Camp Miakonda.  The press conference was held near Lake Sawyer and the Activities Field at Camp Miakonda.

Camp Miakonda and Lake Sawyer are adjacent to the upper Ottawa River. By increasing wetland habitat, reducing the stream erosion, and diversifying the habitat near and adjacent to the river, PCS is providing a better chance for the animals, fish, and bugs to thrive in healthier habitats, both in the river and in the forested adjacent areas. In the years to come, this restored area will be used as an amazing outdoor classroom for Scouts and their families to learn about the natural environment and enjoy experiencing outdoor adventures in and around Lake Sawyer once again.

The Partners for Clean Streams’ (PCS) project will restore at least 10 acres of wetland, 30 acres of associated upland habitat and 1200 linear feet of sediment erosion bank stabilization along the Ottawa River, at the 157 acre Boy Scout Camp.

In addition to the grant, the Army Corp of Engineers is working with PCS on a Habitat Restoration Master Plan.

Already, the concept plans are complete and the surveying and final design to be completed over the winter, accelerating the planning and positioning the project for timely implementation in the fall of 2011.
